| I recently read a letter from Brian Vike (HBCC UFO Research) to some one who had seen the odd ??asteroid?? in the evening of an Autumn day in the early 1960's. I also saw this event. A ball of fire (quite large), no sound, extremely long tail of fire, traveling PARALLEL to the ground, at a height just above the telephone poles. Oddly enough, we were playing football and I was the quarterback and therefore the only one looking in that direction. At supper I told my family and the all thought I was crazy due to the parallel position, the huge size, the fire, and silence. It was traveling from South-East to West. There was a brief mention in the next morning newspaper that at least one other person saw this. Over all of these years THAT is what has amazed me most - very few witnessed it. It was extremely low and parallel to the ground. It has always been my assumption that meteors travel at an angle and this was not. This occured in a valley in the mountains in Eastern Pennsylvania. | |
